How to Fake Awake

Due to popular request by time poor mums here is my simple and effective 5 minute makeup.
It’s designed to be a quick and easy natural makeup for mums.
You will be a yummy mummy in no time at all!

 

 

Don’t forget the skincare first, start the makeup after you have cleansed and moisturised.

FOUNDATION – the base of every good makeup. Use your fingers to blend in a tinted moisturiser or BB cream. Choose a tone as close to your natural skin colour as possible. My favourite is the Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB cream and the good news is that it is budget friendly, $11.19 from Priceline. Alternatively for a more luxe product try Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser, I especially like their illuminating one as it will give you an instant, healthy glow if you are on the dry side (David Jones, $65).

 

CONCEALER – A girls best friend. Apply some concealer to the eye trough which is the area close to your nose near the inside corner of your eyes. This is where the skin appears blue when you are tired so it’s really important that you choose a warm concealer to balance out the darkness. My favourite is Charlotte Tilbury’s The Retoucher concealer as it will hide all evidence of a sleepless night  (from net-a-porter, $35). A good concealer is definitely worth the investment as a bad one can look thick and cakey under the eyes.

 

POWDER – Set your base so you look fabulous all day long. Press Hourglass Ethereal or Ambient Dim Light (Mecca $67) into the T-zone and cheeks with a powder brush. This particular powder is a makeup artist’s must have as unlike other powders it keeps the skin luminous unlike other matte powders.

 
BLUSH -Our most important step of all. It’s the best product on earth to fake the look of wellness. Without it we can all look a bit tired. Nars Orgasm blush is the worlds best selling blush for a reason so I definitely recommend giving it a try if it isn’t in your makeup bag already (Mecca Cosmetica $44). Brush on the blush on the apples of your cheeks and on to your cheek bones.

 
SHADOW – I highly recommend the By Terry Ombre Blackstar Pens or the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow Sticks as they are so quick and easy to apply. For fair skin try Golden Pink by Bobbi Brown or for a deeper tanned skin try Golden Bronze. Simply wipe onto the eye lid with the pen and smudge it with your fingers. They have a slight shimmer so they even out the colour on your eye lids and give a nice sheen that is subtle for the day.

 

 MASCARA – Define your eyes with mascara, my go to mascara is Lancôme Hypnose. I only apply mascara to the top lashes in the day as I like to fight gravity and lift everything up!

 

BROWS – for a natural brow try brow mascara. I really like the Charlotte Tilbury gel from net-a-porter as the tiny wand makes it easy to control and use.

 

EXTRA PRO TIP – If you’ve had a particularly bad nights sleep try Benefit’s Eye Bright in the bottom inner rim of the eye, it will wake you right up.

 

LIPBALM – Finish off your look with tinted lipbalm. Mecca Lip-de-luscious in rose (Mecca Cosmetica $30) hydrates the lips and gives a subtle rosebud colour. It won’t look like you’ve tried to hard, it will just give you that beautiful natural colour that so many of us want but aren’t born with.
