Real Wedding Story

April and Michael’s wedding December 7th 2013

I just had to write about this beautiful couple and their wedding day as I really admire them both for being such a genuine and thoughtful couple. Everything about their wedding was perfect. April has such an eye for detail, I think she should change careers and go into wedding planning and styling. They both touched my heart, a truly inspiring and beautiful couple.

How did you both meet?

“I actually knew most of Michael’s family before I met him. Michael’s Grandparents (Jo & Ray) were my next door neighbours from where I grew up in Narooma, a small coastal town on the south coast of NSW. Michael came to Narooma every Christmas. During this time Michael’s Grandfather (Ray) tried numerous times to play matchmaker with the girls next door. It wasn’t until I moved to Sydney for college that Michael listened to his Grandfather and contacted me. Unfortunately it was around this time that Ray passed away, but we comforted each other and felt it drew us closer together. Our first date was dinner at the Shangri La in Sydney (my best friend and Michael secretly planned together). Michael, not a big fan of fancy eating, asked me “What’s Venison?” , to which I replied “You can’t eat Bambi!”. We have been almost inseparable ever since.”

Tell us about your vision for the day and the wedding

“I had dreamt of the day I would say “I do” for a very long time. The beautiful details, the celebration of love and the ability to let personal creativity tell a story really appeals to me.
We both wanted to get married outdoors, that was important to both of us. I had fallen in love with Milton Park Country House a while ago, once we both visited we knew this was the venue for us. The theme I envisioned was Garden Romance and Milton Park’s beautiful garden estate and French provincial styled Orangerie was a perfect platform.

The day was everything I had dreamed of and more. It was filled with much laughter, love and happiness. It was wonderful to see my vision of the day come to life and even more special to share it with all the people we love. There were many beautiful memories, none more so than marrying the love of my life.”

We just love the little thoughtful touches featured in your wedding, is there a story behind them?

“I designed most of the little details such as the menus, place cards and table numbers and then I had help from my friends and family. The “Happily Ever After” sign I bought off Etsy, but my parents added the stake, spray painted it silver and added the heart decoration.

To honour those who couldn’t be with us we had a family history and remembrance section. I filled the wooden shelves with wedding photos of our parents and grand parents.

I let Lina from Chanele Rose Flowers run with her creativity for the buffet, my only requests were macaroons and musk sticks.

Katey, my bridesmaid made our divine red velvet cake filled with French strawberry conserve and cream cheese frosting, coated in Belgian white chocolate ganache.

My sister Shelly designed our beautiful peony four tier invitations.

Why did you book Gemma Nichols Makeup Artistry for your hair and makeup?

“We booked two years in advanced so we wouldn’t miss out. I had worked with Gem before on shoots and not only did I love her style, but she was very easy to get along with. She was an instant friend and I knew I had to have her!”

Can you describe your hair and makeup look?

“My hair was styled in soft yet glamorous curls and my makeup was my favourite bronze/earthy smokey look teamed with peachy lips and blush.”

How did you find the dress?

“I found my dream “Noella” gown at David Jones Bridal in Sydney. I didn’t pick up the dress at first, my best friend pointed it out. I remember thinking it was unique with all it’s beautiful layers. It had a touch of vintage and tradition but was also glamorous in it’s shape. I tried it on and I’d fallen in love. I had tried on another brand of dress but I kept coming back to Noella, it was the one. My mother, my best friends and my sister knew it too.”

Tell us about your favourite wedding suppliers

“Having worked with Lina, from Chanele Rose Flowers I knew she would provide divine flowers. She had a flair for rustic styling and it was wonderful that we could combine both the flowers and styling with her. She listened to what I wanted and created the image I had dreamed of. Lush full open peonies, a palette of blush and ivory with small rustic touches described my inspiration.”

“I had kept my eye out for competitions and noticed one with Modern Wedding Magazine. Out of the prizes on offer I had my eye on Milton Gan Photography. I entered, crossing all my fingers and toes I would win his photography package. By pure luck I ended up coming second in the competition. The first girl had chosen a trip to Bali, I jumped up and down when I then got to choose Milton. At the time I was working in the Construction Industry, so none of the men understood why I was so excited!”
