Gemma is a makeup artist and the founder of Gemma Nichols Hair and Makeup Artistry. She started her career in 2005 after studying at Cameron Jane Makeup Designs. Gemma began doing hair and makeup in Sydney for many different aspects of the beauty industry to  gain as much experience and expertise as possible. During the first 4 years of her career she worked on television shows such as Deadly Women, did Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, worked on a variety of Television Commercials and productions, worked for cosmetics retail giant Mecca Cosmetica and did lots of weddings and events.

After experiencing all these different facets of the beauty industry Gemma decided to focus on what she enjoys most; television production, bridal and education.

So in 2009 she started Gemma Nichols Hair and Makeup Artistry which is now a flourishing agency of talented hair and makeup artists in Sydney. Versatility is one of Gemma’s strong points and so it is no surprise that she and her team excel in hair and makeup for both commercial purposes such as Television commercials and corporate and fashion photoshoots as well as hair and makeup for private clients such as weddings and makeup lessons.

Since 2014 Gemma has been making up the stars of Channel 9 for a variety of their shows filmed at their studios in Sydney. Gemma particularly loves making up television presenters as it gives her the opportunity to create glamorous looks designed to make people look their absolute best. Gemma thrives in the fast pace environment of live television and can be relied upon to go above and beyond to assist the crew however she can, keep calm under pressure and meet tight deadline demands.

Wedding hair and makeup is certainly what Gemma is known for, every year her business does around 250 weddings a year. Last year, they entered the Australian Bridal Industry Awards for the first time and were placed official runner up of NSW, with their brides giving them an overall impressive score of 99.98%

Gemma loves weddings because nothing is more rewarding than seeing a happy, glowing bride and giving her the confidence to walk down the aisle.

What makes their service valued by their brides is that Gemma and all of her artists are both highly experienced and skilled in their artistry. In addition, they are friendly, thoughtful and approachable when working with the bridal party so that everyone is relaxed and comfortable in their presence.  The end result is flawless hair and makeup that transitions well from real life to the wedding photos and the bridal party walk away feeling beautiful and confident after a fun morning getting pampered.

Gemma was also an educator for Makeup brand La Biosthetique, flying all over Australia teaching the staff at their salons how to apply makeup professionally. What she enjoyed most about teaching was connecting with people individually and helping them excel and so her one on one lessons were born. Gemma offers makeup lessons for those wanting to improve their own makeup skills, she tailors them to the individuals needs so her students leave feeling confident and empowered.

What Gemma’s clients say about her is that she is kind, compassionate and genuine. This could not be more evident than in her work with Starlights Make a Wish Foundation. In fact volunteering as a Make A Wish ambassador is one of the most rewarding aspects of Gemma’s career.

Her passion for beauty shines through everything she does and no matter what the project Gemma seamlessly transitions from TV, to red carpet, to bridal, to every day looks for her makeup lessons.
