There are so many before and after photos on Instagram at the moment but I wanted to do one that is actually authentic. I want the difference to be in the makeup so there is NO RETOUCHING at all and NO LIGHTING TRICKS in this before and after. What you see is what you get here because quite frankly I am sick of seeing makeup artists on Instagram and social media hashtagging #nofilter but still very obviously either using the Samsung beauty mode or a skin softening app. It creates unrealistic expectations. Life is hard enough for us women, without having to compete with fictional beauty.
My models are naturally beautiful before makeup there is no dispute there but I think with makeup they are both absolute show stoppers. They said they felt so empowered and glamorous after being made up. I am not a heavy handed makeup artist, I favor softer looks but I have chosen these two looks; because they are my most requested looks red lips with soft eyes and smokey eyes with nude lips.
I will publish this blog in two parts, a blog on each look with a full product breakdown.
First up is Philippa wearing a mauve toned smokey look teamed with a nude lip.
I have made up Philippa twice before when she was a bridesmaid and so we did a soft, fresh eye look to be appropriate for the day time wedding and soft dresses. I have been dying to do a smokey look on her as I just love her beautiful hazel eyes.
First I applied Misty Rock Ombre Blackstar pen By Terry all over the lid,
I then went over the outer lid with Satin Taupe and Star Violet Mac shadows and on the inner corner I used Mac Amber Lights
I used the matte red/terracotta shadow from the Tom Ford Orchid Haze palette in her socket using Mac brush 217 and then deepened the corner with the dark purple colour from the same palette.
I shaded under her eyes with the Tom Ford Orchid Haze colours using a bullet brush and then lined her inner rim with a black and a purple gel eye liner both from Inglot.
I lined the top lid with black liquid liner (a generic black cake eyeliner) and then applied Rimmel Scandaleyes mascara by Rimmel and Ardell Demi Wispies lashes using duo clear glue.
I also filled in her brows using a combination of Hourglass brow pencil in soft brown and the Senna brow palette.
For the base I darkened Philippa’s skin so that it matched the fake tan on her body. I used a combination of Nars Sheer Glow shades and concealed under the eyes with Mac Pro Long Wear concealer.
On the cheeks I highlighted with Nars White Sands Illuminator, softly contoured with Mac Sculpt powder and then applied Nars blushes Sex Appeal and Luster on the apples of the cheeks.
Finlly on her lips I used Hourglass Nude number 4 lipstick and a soft peach toned lipgloss.
So I hope you enjoyed this blog and plan to try this look at home on yourselves. If you aren’t confident in applying makeup you can book in with me to either get made up be me or have a makeup lesson with me at my Potts Point home studio. I will publish the second look next week so subscribe to my blog so you don’t miss out.
