How to do a quick and glamorous evening makeup in 10 minutes flat – the 9 makeup steps with the most impact.

We all want to look great with minimum effort, right? Most of us don’t want to spend two hours in the bathroom every time we have a hot date. I have put together a step by step makeup look that you can do for your next evening out and the great news is it will only take you ten minutes, max. And it gets better, I have listed all of my favourite luxury products in this step by step along with the cheaper drugstore alternatives. Below is a photo of me wearing the finished 9 step evening makeup, it only took me 5 minutes, but you should allow 10 minutes as I have had more practice at applying makeup quickly.

It’s all about the base…

Primer – if you want your makeup to stay on all night you must take the time to prime

I love Lancome La Base Pro  but Face of Australia HD Primer is pretty damn good and it won’t break the bank at $14 from Priceline.

Foundation – to look healthy and our best our skin tone needs to be even so you must apply your foundation.

My favourite is Armani Luminous Silk, it makes the skin look natural and perfect. If you are on a budget try Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation. If you are struggling to find the right foundation for you, have a look at my blog to get some tips

Powder – you have to set that base in order for it to last. Concentrate on the T-Zone and avoid any dry areas.

I’m obsessed with Hourglass Ambient Powder in Dim Light as it sets foundation and gives the skin an incredible lit from within glow, the skin doesn’t look powdery at all. My favourite drugstore powder is Bourjois Balance.

Blush – blush makes you look like you have slept a thousand years, it makes you look healthy and fabulous. I just can’t understand why people don’t like blush.

I can’t go past Nars blushes in either Deep Throat, Orgasm or Luster $39. I’m wearing orgasm in the photo above. For a cheaper alternative the Bourjois blushes are good although nothing compares to the Nars blushes in my opinion Application tip – blush should be applied to the apples of your cheeks and on the cheek bones.

It’s time for sexy eyes….

Eye base – even out the skin tone on your eyes and prime in one to keep your makeup looking fresh and long lasting.

Painterly (pale skin) or Ocre (olive skin) Mac Paint Pots are fantastic for the eyes. You put it on with your fingers, it is so quick and easy to apply. It evens out the colour on your eye lids and keeps eyeshadow in place for hours. I am wearing Painterly in the photo. I have yet to find a drug-store alternative I’m afraid, Maybelline Colour Tattoo’s are fab but they have shimmer and colour through them so they look better on the lid, not all over the eyes.

Shadow – if you pick the right colour one shadow is all you need. Choose colour you like to apply on the eye lids but you can’t go wrong with a sexy taupe or deep gold.

I adore Satin Taupe by Mac (which I am wearing in the photo) for the taupe colour or bronze or woodwinked by Mac for the gold. Revlon and L’Oreal both make great cheaper silky shadows, Taupe by Revlon is a good alternative to Satin Taupe

Liner – the key to the quick sexy, smokey effect is the pencil. Smudge a waterproof eye pencil into the the top lash line. This creates definition and a smokey effect (skip for fresh faced makeup). Apply the same pencil along your bottom lash line but not all the way in, just to half way to keep the look soft. Then smudge to soften.

My favourite is the Stila Smudge Stick Pencil in Purple Tang which I used on myself for this look but for a real bargain try Essence pencils, they are $2.75

Mascara – this is the step that should never be skipped! Every woman should have thick and flirty lashes.

I am a little obsessed with Diorshow Iconic, it’s a splurge but definitely worth it. If you don’t want to spend much then Rimmel Scandal Eyes gives a lovely thick lash For more information on the perfect mascara application read

The perfect trout pout….

Lip Stain – you are in a hurry so forget the lip liner, lipstick and gloss and go straight to a stain.

I recommend the Maybelline 24 hour colour stay as you wont have to touch up at all, they simply don’t budge.  They have lots of colours to choose from but I love Timeless Toffee (which you can see pictured on me) for barely there colour that looks great with defined eyes. Your lips wont get dry as it comes with a conditioning balm that you can reapply throughout the night if you like. There is no luxe alternative here because I have tried so many and the Maybelline ones win every time. Pro Tip – a quick extra step to give you really kissable lips is to apply a tiny bit of shimmer/highlight just above the cupids bow to accentuate your lips. I like to use Kitten Eye Shadow by Stila to do this

Voila…You look fantastic, now it’s time to go out and have some fun.

Tip – If you are looking for a quick makeup for work do all of the above steps except the eye pencil. This will keep your makeup suitable for corporate environments as opposed to a night out..
