Many of us look to the celebs to get our hair and makeup inspiration and ideas for our wedding hair and makeup and special events. Here are my favourite celebrity red carpet hair and makeup looks from The Oscars 2014.
For Me Angelina Jolie’s red carpet makeup is the winner. Yes she would still look stunning without any makeup on at all but this look is so beautiful. She has stepped away from her normal eyeliner look and gone for a sultry and subtle smokey eye look. She has kept her cheek and lip colour to a minimum which I think compliments the tone of the dress perfectly. The lashes her artist has used also deserve a mention as they are effective yet not over the top. My only critique is I think she should have done more with her hair to show off the neck line of the dress. This would translate perfectly into a wedding makeup for a bride or bridesmaid.
Margie Robbie clearly has the wow factor hear. I love a bold lip as many of you know but I especially love this plum purple as it makes the look a little ore edgy and urban compared to the polished red lip. Teamed with the glamorous vintage waves the whole look is perfect, perhaps my favourite of the night. By teaming the neat, glamorous hair with the edgy purple lip you get a contemporary and mind blowing look. This look would be perfect for anyone wanting to make an impact for a night on the town. Pro tip – to make the lip colour work pair back the rest of the makeup.
So Olivia Wilde has the advantage of the pregnancy glow but she still went all out and perfected the whole look. The nude, peach lip and the classic liquid liner is a nod to the 60’s but the vintage theme isn’t overdone because she teamed it with a soft, romantic hairstyle. The hairstyle frames her face perfectly at the front and has beautiful soft texture at the back. By pulling the hair up high she is drawing attention to the neck line of her Valentino gown and ensuring the look isn’t too busy. This is a perfectly balanced look which would suit any occasion. Pro tip – to avoid looking overly vintage try teaming a modern hairstyle with a vintage makeup or vice versa.
The looks keep getting better and better. Amy Adams just oozes perfection with her sleek hair, dewy complexion and soft peachy and bronze makeup hues. The makeup enhances her features perfectly without being distracting and taking the focus away from her natural beauty. For this very reason this makeup would be stunning on a bride with similar colouring. I can’t wait to see a photo of her hair from the back as I love the shape and height at the front.
So Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t look happy here (which could have something to do with her red carpet fall) but I just had to include her because I just love her hairstyle. It is kept fresh and clean by being off the face and the texture ensues it is still soft and pretty. I would love to see this look worn to a ball or a wedding.
Penelope Cruise has nailed her look. Her hair is in trend and yet will not date, it allows her one shoulder dress to be clearly seen. Her makeup is classic, sexy and compliments her eye shape perfectly. I love the eyeliner as it almost matched the black belt featured in her soft, pastel pink dress.
Maria Menounos looks absolutely divine. She has paired a sexy, dark smoke eye with a soft, feminine and pretty hairstyle. The dark eyes is a wonderful contrast to the light, creamy toned dress. It looks like the braid trend is here to stay. I would love to see this hair and makeup on my brides.
Jessica Biel always manages to look feminine, soft and elegant on the red carpet. Her look isn’t avant grade or particularly different but it is very, very pretty and would be perfect for a bride wearing a soft, vintage gown. She never seems to overdo her hair and makeup she has it just right. Her natural beauty shines through and her hair is classically swept to the side.
Kate Hudson’s is the definition of Hollywood glamor. We have been seeing lots of vintage inspired waves lately but I particularly love the softness of these waves. Her makeup is also pretty, it compliments the whole look perfectly without overpowering the look. The soft peachy toned lip suits her colouring perfectly. This look would be great for almost any occasion except for an outdoor event on a wet or windy day.
I hope you enjoyed my favourite hair and makeup looks of The Oscar’s 2014, they should come in useful when planning your hair and makeup for future events. Hopefully I will get to do these looks on a few of you soon.
